AXA Business Insurance has been named as DYW Glasgow’s Employer of the Month for April. DYW Glasgow aims to increase industry links with education and move more young people into work.

AXA are hugely committed to the youth employment agenda and see the value of early engagement with education, the recruitment of young people into their business, in particular apprentices, and upskilling existing staff.

Attracting young people to consider a career in the financial and business sector is crucial for AXA to hire skilled and enthusiastic people into their business. They were part of the pilot of the Foundation Apprenticeship programme offering 4 school pupils the opportunity to complete a flexible work placement. Foundation Apprenticeships help young people gain valuable, real-world work experience and access work-based learning while they’re still at school.

They have continued to support the foundation apprenticeship taking 2 young people this year. As well as this, they have 18 Modern Apprentices recruited directly into Business Insurance Advisor roles.

AXA engage with schools in a number of ways including offering industry tours for young people to allow them to see first-hand what the working environment is like, learn more about jobs within the sector and learn about opportunities that are available to them. They attend careers fairs in a number of schools across Glasgow as well as offer mock interviews to young people. They have, more recently, been working with Notre Dame High school which is an all-girls schools in the west of the city. They have been delivering a number of activities including office tours and facilitating a maths class to demonstrate how maths is practically applied in the world of Financial Services.

We are delighted to be working with schools across the city to inspire young people to think about this sector when they are leaving school. We see the apprenticeship opportunities we offer as a really attractive option for young people. They earn while they learn and have lots of opportunities within one of the key growth market sectors

Graeme Cairns, People Development Team Leader
