Scotland's Biggest Parents' Evening

Business Brunch: Inspiring Scotland's future global workforce

For the workshops, groups of young people will have the opportunity to get a more in-depth insight of the value of languages within specific sectors they are interested in.

Radiant and Brighter Awareness Day

Girls Go Construct

53 pupils from S2 and above will participate in a variety of practical workshops relating to careers in the construction industry.

They will also have the chance to speak to employers in the industry who are pro-active in addressing gender disparity in the sector as well as receive information about relevant courses at Glasgow Clyde College.

Scotland’s young people: engage, employ, inspire

Our partners at Remarkable are passionate about making a real difference in the ways organisations work, develop and innovate. And passion is something that Scotland’s young people have in abundance, bringing creativity, energy and skills into the workplace.  Attracting the right people, nurturing them and retaining their talent is both exciting and challenging.

In 2014 Remarkable developed the Investors in Young People (IIYP) good practice framework with support from Scottish Government. It recognises the important contribution that 16-24 year old young people make both to organisations and to Scotland’s economy and helps organisations recruit, support, develop and retain their young employees.

Remarkable has recently been awarded grant funding from the Scottish Government to support up to 300 micro and small to medium enterprises to deliver their own youth employment strategies and aim to achieve the IIYP award.

  • a tailored action plan to help you kick-start, or further, your youth employment activityreceived advice and guidance from experts in their field
  • an understanding of your current organisational needs and the role that young people can play in helping you achieve sustainable and profitable business goals and objectives

Erasmus+ Act for Careers Conference

Glasgow City Council and the City of Nuremberg have been funded since 2014 under the Erasmus+ European education programme to collaborate together on improving support for young people’s employability skills in their transition from school to work.  The project entitled ‘Act for Careers’ has involved, schools, colleges, employment support teams and businesses to examine and learn from best practice in this field to inform and enhance local/national policy and practice at key transition points in young people’s development of their employability skills.  On 9 March 2017, City of Nuremberg delivered a conference on their findings and collaboration with the City of Glasgow.  

The conference will offer a range of workshops and plenary sessions on learning about the German education system, the benefits of:  international engagement; funded European job shadowing opportunities; enhanced practice on employability skills from school to work and on supporting young people from a refugee background into employment.  Speakers will include the Education Mayor of Nuremberg, Executive Director of Education Glasgow City Council and project participants from both Glasgow and Nuremberg, including young people from Lochend Community High School.

BBC Tour

Pupils attending this tour will be given a brief, interactive activities, a tour and a chance to speak with the Bitesize, social media and web teams.

These are 90-minute tours with a specific focus on digital skills but tours could cover anything relevant to the industry.

Girls Go Digital

When:   Thursday 20 April 2017
Where:  Tontine Building, Merchant City

Girls Go Digital is an interactive event for S3/3 girls. This event will feature a keynote speaker and 2 hour-long interactive workshops for each group to attend. There will also be time for the pupils to speak to all of the pupils attending to gain advice and they will also hear about Foundation Apprenticeship opportunities. Businesses involved include Dell, Weber Shandwick and Jem Digital. This will be an enjoyable and inspiring event to help girls think about digital skills in a wide range of contexts. We have female business owners and experts providing interesting and interactive workshops to leave pupils with a great insight into a fantastic career path.

Build Your Future

Young people aged 16-24 who are looking for a job in the construction industry are invited to come along to this construction jobs and industry awareness event.

Apprenticeship Levy - Conversation with Jamie Hepburn, Minister for Employability and Training

The UK Government announced the introduction of the Apprenticeship Levy in early 2016.  The Levy, payable from April 2017, is set at 0.5% of an employer’s annual wage bill and will be drawn from employers with an annual salary bill of over £3million.  In December 2016, following a consultation, the Scottish Government published its response to the UK Government including a draft budget for the £221 million for 2017/18.

Foundation Apprenticeship Breakfast Briefing Event

Initiated by Skills Development Scotland, the Foundation Apprenticeship Programme is aimed at senior phase school pupils in S5. Continuing in school until the end of S6, students supplement their academic studies with a vocational qualification involving significant work-based learning.

Foundation Apprenticeships are delivered across a range of industries including engineering, digital marketing, IT, social care, financial services, life sciences and business. All Foundation Apprenticeships are set at SCQF level 6 - equalivelant to a Higher.

Breakfast will be served at 8.30am where you will have the opportunity to talk to current Foundation Apprentice employers and students involved in the programme. So take some time out, learn how industry is leading education and discover how your organisation can gain early access to the nation's talent pipeline.
