Monday, 04 September 2017
An exciting sponsorship opportunity has been launched to help young people across the city access funds to help towards their Duke of Edinburgh Silver or Gold level award.
For the first time, Glasgow City Council has joined forces with the Glasgow Eastern Merchants to create a fund that will offer up to 10 young people per year the chance to apply for money to help them in relation to the expedition and residential sections of this very popular and the world's leading youth achievement award.
Bronze, Silver or Gold
Thousands of Glasgow pupils have earned either a Bronze, Silver or Gold DofE award over the years and the awards, valued by employers, colleges and universities, have inspired and transformed their lives by taking part.
Marcus Whyte from the Glasgow Eastern Merchants' and Tradesmen's Society charity is delighted to be able to offer help to Glasgow's young people who might not otherwise thought about DofE.
He said: "Our aim is to give each young person equal opportunities and not let any barriers stand in their way of reaching their full potential.
"The benefits of taking part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme are well documented and it's an achievement that is universally recognised by employers and further and higher education.
"We are delighted to join forces with Glasgow City Council to set up this fund."
Councillor Chris Cunningham, City Convener for Education, Skills & Early Years said: "This is a great opportunity to get some additional financial help towards a Duke of Edinburgh Award.
"The skills that you learn will be with you for life and anyone who is thinking about applying should find out more information about the new fund on offer."
