NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde wins 2016 Glasgow Business Award
Friday, 07 October 2016
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (GGC) have scooped up the Innovation in Youth Employment Award, sponsored by DYW Glasgow at this year’s Glasgow Business Awards.
NHS GGC are supporting the increased recruitment of young people into the organisation through increased awareness of the range of careers available, development of new pathways into employment and their Modern Apprenticeship programme.
Like many public sector organisations, NHS GCC has an ageing workforce with more than a third (38%) of the workforce aged over 50. It is essential that the NHS continues to attract, train and retain young people within the workforce to ensure it has a suitably skilled workforce to meet current and future service demands.
One of the most exciting developments within NHS GGC has been the pilot of a revised model of the school work experience programme. In light of the Developing the Young Workforce strategy and the new Education Scotland Work Placement Standards, the Workforce Employability Team has developed and piloted a new work experience called NHS Careers Insight.
The pilot programme, for 12 senior phase pupils from 5 different schools in Glasgow, took place in June. The pupils took part in a range of activities including a tour of the Pharmacy department, witness a CT scan and test a defibrillator with the Medical Physics team.
Feedback from participants was extremely positive and the NHS intend to roll out the programme across further local authority areas within the next 12 months.
Congratulations, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde!
